Allways Hire: supporting Hawke’s Bay business since 2007

Allways Hire has been supporting Hawke’s Bay customers with hire equipment for over 15 years. During that time we’ve changed our target market, launched a second brand, evolved and expanded our fleet of hire equipment, and opened a second Napier branch. Throughout it all we’ve stayed true to our values. We always put our customers first and go the extra mile to make sure they’re happy.

In this article we look back on the history of Allways Hire and where we’ve come from. Where we’ve been has led us to where we are today, and will inform where our business goes in the future. We’re looking forward to being the number 1 hire choice for our customers in Hawke’s Bay for many years to come.

The beginning of Allways Hire

Our Hawke’s Bay equipment hire business started out in 2007 as a sideline to Stortford Machinery – our farm machinery business. At that point our focus was mainly on hiring out agricultural equipment to agricultural customers.

Our original fleet of hire equipment was mostly made up of tractors and tractor implements, but we also hired out a small range of construction equipment including diggers from 1.7T to 14T in size, tipper trucks, and more.

From the beginning we knew what our customers wanted – reliable equipment that was new or near new, easy to use, and easy to hire. We put time and effort into listening to our customers’ problems and trying to find innovative ways to help them get the job done better. This proved popular with farmers and also with our construction customers.

As our construction business grew, so did our fleet of construction equipment. Over time our business model evolved and we moved our focus to the construction and roading customers we have today.

What kind of challenges did we face as the business grew?

Starting a business and growing it gave us plenty of challenges and opportunities to learn. Our insights into the difficulties of running a small business are still relevant today. They help us to recognise and adapt to the challenges our customers face with their own companies.

The early years of operation saw us running a very lean operating model. That meant high utilisation of our equipment, one full time staff member in charge of everything, and many juggles to make sure our customers had the machine they wanted, when they wanted it. Those years taught us the importance of being flexible and able to adapt to our customers’ needs.

We started off with only one full time staff member who was responsible for checking and maintaining the machines, cleaning the equipment, taking bookings and doing deliveries. Having one person work across all these areas taught us the benefit of expertise in our workforce.

How Allways Hire does things differently, for our customers

We built our business by listening to our customers, being flexible to their needs, enjoying what we do, and having the right equipment that’s new, well-maintained and reliable.

In everything we do, our business remains focused on our customers. When our customers have access to the right reliable equipment, their businesses will grow and prosper. We’re here to deliver exceptional service and adapt to deliver what our customers need. We never stop listening, and we will never stop innovating. That’s what sets us apart.

Our innovation grew into a new business

With a constant focus on problem solving, it didn’t take long for us to identify a gap in the market. In 2017 when we couldn’t find a tractor sweeper to suit the needs of our hire customers, we decided to build one.

From design to build, and after a good few years of experimenting and feedback, we launched the Master Sweeper – a tractor sweeper designed to be more economical while fixing the problems of dust suppression and being easy to operate.

The Master Sweeper launched in December 2017 and has been purchased by customers across New Zealand, as well being a popular hire for Allways Hire in Hawke’s Bay

 

Since this launch, Master Equipment has gone from strength to strength, building a reputation for designing innovative equipment that is considered, well designed, and does a job better than other equipment on the market.

Now called Master Machinery, the fleet includes the Master Sweeper, Master Grader, Master Water Carts, Master Jetter, Master Hydro Vacuum Excavator and the Master Trailers. Always Hire offers Master Machinery for hire to all of its customers.

Serving Hawke’s Bay customers with the best fleet of hire equipment, today and tomorrow

Over the past 5 years we’ve continued to grow to meet the needs of our customers while the Hawke’s Bay region has seen: a boom in construction; the impact of a major cyclone; and a huge growth in both businesses and population. During this time our staff numbers have increased, our fleet of hire equipment has doubled in number, and we’ve boosted the convenience for our customers by adding in a new branch in Napier in June 2023.

The Napier yard opened in June 2023 and has been a convenient addition for our customers working in and around Napier.

 

 

As our region continues to grow, we’re looking forward to continuing to offer the best range of reliable hire equipment to our customers from both our Napier and Hastings branches. We’ll keep our focus on doing what we do best – and we’ll keep listening to our customers and looking for more opportunities and ways to innovate and improve our service.
