If you’re looking for the best tool to break up concrete, try a concrete breaker attachment. The concrete breaker attachment – also known as a rock breaker – is ideal for breaking rocks, concrete or for demolition work. That makes it a popular piece of equipment in the construction industry – giving builders an easy way to dispose of unwanted concrete or rocks.
Using a concrete or rock breaker attachment on an excavator makes short work of removing unwanted rocks and concrete. What’s more, if you have unwanted concrete waste you need to get rid of, there are companies who will repurpose it and make sure it can be used somewhere else.
In Hawke’s Bay and Hastings you can contact Awakeri Drainage who can help you dispose of your concrete waste.
HOW DOES A CONCRETE BREAKER WORK?
The concrete breaker is a powerful percussion hammer that is fitted to an excavator.
In simple terms the breaker is powered with hydraulic flow from the excavator. The hydraulic oil flow builds up pressure on a nitrogen filled accumulator, which when released energises the pointed hammer with a powerful impact. This cycle happens many times a minute, giving you the rapid fire impact you need from a concrete breaker. The pointed hammer penetrates and fractures the concrete and/or rocks.
It’s not uncommon on a construction or demolition job to hit a big rock or old patch of concrete that needs to be removed. Doing it by hand can be hard work but using a machine like a concrete breaker fitted to an excavator can make it a whole lot easier.
To hire a concrete breaker with your excavator hire, just let the Allways Hire team know. We have a mini excavator and concrete breaker combination set up on a trailer and ready to work. It’s an effective combination for dealing with concrete or rocks and could save you a lot of time so you can safely get on with the job.
WHAT KIND OF EXCAVATOR DO YOU NEED FOR A CONCRETE BREAKER?
Excavators need auxiliary or power take off hydraulic piping to be able to power a concrete breaker.
The size of the excavator determines the breaker it can drive. This is based on the hydraulic oil flow available and physical weight required to safely perform the task.
Allways Hire offers customers the Dozco rock breaker which suits our 1.7T excavator. The breaker weighs 139 kg which is much heavier and more effective than the largest handheld machine available at 30 kg. It is safe and easy to use from the comfort of the excavator operator’s seat but the normal PPE (face, head and hearing protection) is still recommended.
